It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Uber these days but the latest news surrounding the once successful company here in the country is not a great one. It seems that their operations in London have fallen and their operating license has been stripped (for the second time in two years) on 25 November 2019 after failing several safety and security measures.
According to a recent report made by The Star Online, a change in the Uber operating system has allowed unauthorised drivers to upload their credentials and details on other registered drivers accounts and pick up passengers. This has happened over 14,000 times in London based on Transport for London. Yikes.
“TfL has identified a pattern of failures by the company including several breaches that placed passengers and their safety at risk. Despite addressing some of these issues, TfL does not have confidence that similar issues will not reoccur in the future, which has led it to conclude that the company is not fit and proper at this time.”
For now, Uber has no comment or feedback regarding the matter and they only have three weeks to appeal for continuation of their services in the city. With over 45,000 registered drivers in London, we’re guessing that Uber might try and make amends but not before addressing the major issue where essentially anyone can get into their app and start picking up unwary passengers.
