The seventh concept car of the Volkswagen ID. family has just been unveiled at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show and it’s called the Volkswagen ID. Space Vizzion. As the name intended, the vehicle defines a completely new segment by combining aerodynamic properties of a Gran Turismo with the ample space commonly associated with SUVs.
According to Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Design, “The new ID. Space Vizzion brings unrivalled flexibility, uncompromising quality and German design to a new era of mobility. The concept car is based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB). The 82kWh gross battery capacity allows distances of up to 590km (WLTP) or 300 miles (EPA). With a system output of up to 250kW (4MOTION), the ID. Space Vizzion accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.”
Taking advantage of its full-electric nature, designers and engineers at Volkswagen had more freedom to further optimise the car’s aerodynamic prowess which not only helps with driving stability but also further extending its driving range by reducing drag. Just one look at that front end and you’ll notice its smooth yet stylish façade.
Another major concept of the Space Vizzion is its interior capacity that can be compared to an SUV. VW’s technology in compact electric drives and battery integration within the vehicle has allowed for a longer wheelbase similar to the premium sedan. In other words, the Space Vizzion can go longer and further while carrying loads of cargo and passengers, without using a single drop of fossil fuel.
Other impressive features include:
- AppleSkin™ – an artificial leather made with residual material from apple juice production
- Fully digitalised cockpit
- AR head-up-display (augmented reality).
- Floating 15.6-inch touchscreen (infotainment & controls)
The production version of the Space Vizzion will probably make its official debut sometime in 2021. It may be futuristic right now but in a few years’ time, the Volkswagen ID. Space Vizzion is the kind of car that you’ll want to be driving around. Stylish, spacious, powerful, and eco-friendly.
