Malaysia’s ‘flying car’ to take first flight this Thursday

Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Minister of Entrepreneur Development, announced that Malaysia’s first flying car prototype will take its maiden flight this Thursday (21 November 2019) at an undisclosed location (he did mention Subang area, so we’re guessing somewhere near the airport) and he’ll be joining the ride as well.

This announcement was made earlier this week when Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan was speaking at the Dewan Rakyat in front of the members of Parliament. According to a report made by Free Malaysia Today, the minister also extended the invite to the members of Parliament to witness the test flight of the two-man vehicle.

The so-called flying vehicle known as ‘Vector’ is currently being developed by Aerodyne Group, a company that focuses on drone technology and air mobility solutions. The scale model was showcased last year at LIMA 2019 and the minister is pretty much confident on how it’ll perform during its first flight.

It was also mentioned that the Vector will be able to carry a total payload up to 200kg whilst flying 50 metres of the ground at around 60km/h. As for flight time, the range was stated to be somewhere around 30-90 minutes depending on speed, payload, and more. But one question still remains; is it really a flying car or is it a manned VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) vehicle that only folks with pilot licenses can operate?
