MINI Malaysia just unveiled their latest 2020 MINI Clubman earlier this morning and to make things even more special, they decided to launch TWO more new models in the form of the 2020 MINI John Cooper Works Countryman and Clubman. Its biggest updates? They now come with a whopping 306hp under the hood.
Both the JCW Countryman and Clubman are fitted with the same 2.0-litre engine + MINI TwinPower Turbo technology that now boasts 306hp @ 5,000rpm and 450Nm of maximum torque as low as 1,750rpm. Both have a limited top speed of 250km/h. 0-100km/h? 4.9 seconds for the JCW Clubman and 5.1 seconds for the JCW Countryman. Power is sent through its eight-speed Steptronic Sports Automatic transmission.
According to Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, “Today, we present the finest evolutions of two iconic MINI vehicles we all know and love. Based on the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman and Clubman unveiled nationwide in 2017, these two new models have been given more power than ever before with a new engine that is worthy of the racetrack. Now with 306HP, the New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants will be astounding – taking the successes of their predecessors to even greater heights.”
“The New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants are amongst the most powerful models in MINI’s 60-year history. As the power source for extreme driving fun, the comprehensively redesigned four-cylinder engine in our new models are oriented towards maximum, assuring their places in the leading range of sports models in the premium compact segment,” Hoelzl added.
Alongside its newly found power, the 2020 MINI John Cooper Works also comes with new sports brakes, JCW suspension package, cooling system, and sports exhaust unit that work exceptionally well with its ALL4 all-wheel-drive system. This means that these bad boys can go the distance, no matter the weather conditions or terrain changes.
While you can definitely rip around the corners in any circuit, MINI is still known for its overall comfort and versatility. Just like the 2020 MINI Clubman, the new John Cooper Works offerings are also fitted with an in-vehicle 4G SIM card and updated MINI Connected App with features including Teleservices, Intelligent Emergency Call, Remote Services, Apple Carplay, Concierge Services and MINI Online.
That’s all well and good but the exterior look is where hardcore MINI enthusiasts can be drawn in which now features a new bumper trim panel with open-air intakes on both sides for efficient cooling of the new engine. Make your way to the other end and you’ll see a set of bigger 85mm tailpipes that screams and barks to sooth any motorhead across the country.
