HEADS UP! First Mazda production EV debuts 23 October 2019

Mazda has announced that they’ll be introducing their very first production EV (electric vehicle) on 23 October 2019. This means that two days from now, the electrified Mazda will make its official debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and judging by the teaser photo they posted, it might just be an SUV of some sort.

Looking at the silhouette, it might just be the Mazda e-TPV (Electric Technology Prove-Out Vehicle). According to the folks from Mazda, their new line-up expansion will be ‘developed in accordance with Mazda’s human-centric philosophy and making full use of the benefits of electric drive technology, it offers performance drivers can enjoy effortlessly and wholeheartedly.’

As far as we know, this EV designed within the body structure of their beloved Mazda CX-30 comes packed with an electric powerplant that produces 140hp and 364Nm of maximum torque. Paired with a 35.5kWh battery pack, it’s meant for the normal everyday driving, but we might even see a different variant in a couple of days with long-distance driving capabilities.

For now, the only fact that we can confirmed is that the very first Mazda production EV is based on the Kodo Design’s expressive range with a “Human Modern” design concept.
