Toyota Motor Corporations has announced the “LQ”, a concept vehicle that has the advanced ability to build an ‘emotional bond’ between car and driver. That’s right, the next-generation Toyota “Concept-I” comes ready with automated driving capabilities and “Yui”, Toyota’s next-level AI that can learn from the driver and deliver a personalised mobility experience.
According to Daisuke Ido, LQ development leader, “In the past, our love for cars was built on their ability to take us to distant places and enable our adventures. Advanced technology gives us the power to match customer lifestyles with new opportunities for excitement and engagement. With the LQ, we are proud to propose a vehicle that can deliver a personalized experience, meet each driver’s unique mobility needs, and build an even stronger bond between car and driver.”
The Toyota LQ Concept follows the main theme of “Learn, Grow, Love”. By learning and understanding the driver’s preferences and needs, the concept vehicle hopes to cue the development of future vehicles and bridge the gap closer between car and its occupants.
A public test run will be organised starting June 2020 and those who are interested can apply via a mobile app. The main features that can be found in the Toyota LQ Concept are:
- Yui Mobility Expert and AI Agent (information access, music streaming, high-speed communication)
- Technology designed to provide safety, peace of mind, and a comfortable mobility experience (automated driving, valet parking system, seats with alertness and relaxation functions)
- Advanced equipment and technology (new HMI functions, Organic LED meter display, air purification coating)
There are a lot of ‘world’s first’ features introduced in the new Toyota LQ Concept and with an EV range of around 300km plus Level 4 Autonomous Driving, we’re guessing that the future of mobility is geared towards more comfort and ease than ever before. There’s still a long way to go but for Toyota’s case, it might be sooner than expected since the public test run will commence next year.
