10-year-old Sam Scharer from the Ysgol Bro Gwydir School, Llanrwst, Conwy, has won a very special design competition which involves a livery for a Toyota GT86 rally car and WRC. The kid’s sea-themed design won the hearts of judges at the nationwide competition and will be seen taking part at the UK’s round for the FIA World Rally Championship. How cool is that?

The competition-winning design was unveiled by Toyota GAZOO Racing WRC star, Kris Meeke. Scharer’s design was chosen due to its striking patriotic features and according to Sam himself, “It’s just amazing to see the car. I have always loved cars and really like sea, so I just put the two together. It’s awesome to have Kris Meeke here and I love the model car. It will go on my shelf in my bedroom next to the Ferrari I have.”

According to Kris Meeke who unveiled the masterpiece, “This is a pretty cool design! It’s really nice to see something like this on the Toyota. He has captured the theme of Wales Rally GB perfectly, especially with the fish design on the roof, it looks like we could be seeing some of those out on the stages this weekend, but that’s what it’s all about, Sam has done a great job”.

The GT86 – kindly provided by Toyota – will remain on show over the weekend in the free-to-enter ‘Big Bang’ Industry Awareness STEM exhibition based in Venue Cymru, Llandudno. The exhibition is located the WRC pits and paddock complex, where all the competing Wales Rally GB teams are located.
