After months of patience and anticipation, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has finally graced the Malaysian market with their latest and most iconic model to date, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra. Officially launched globally earlier this year, UMWT kept their promise and delivered their masterpiece today during its grand unveiling in Kuala Lumpur.
Dubbed the A90 Supra, the fifth-generation model kept everyone on their toes ever since Toyota applied for its trademark name back in 2010. Years of development has led to this new 2020 Toyota GR Supra and like most markets around the world, this bad boy will start delivery in 2020.
According to Mr Akio Takeyama, UMW Toyota’s Chief Motorsports Officer, “This time, as never before in the past, so much attention has been paid to its handling capabilities. Our President demanded nothing less than the highest performance and the considerable engineering resources and experience of the company were all drawn upon to develop the all-new GR Supra. This is a sportscar in its purest form, with no compromise.”
Designed with a ‘sensuous body and athletic stance’, there’s no denying the fact that the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is a rolling work of art. Apart from good looks, the nature behind the masterpiece also offers and almost perfect weight distribution which translates to one of the best driver’s car money can buy.
Its sculpted front end is equipped with a set of two-level, six-lens jewel-like LED headlights with Automatic High Beam feature that provide excellent levels of brightness and clarity. These beauties also provide excellent style and safety for the driver as well as other road users.
Moving towards the rear, the new Supra is fitted with one sexy-looking rear diffuser which blends together with its dual 90mm exhaust tips that ties the whole look together apart from giving a performance boost in the aerodynamics department. There’s also a built-in rear spoiler that’s just too awesome for words.
Powered by a 3.0-litre twin-scroll single-turbo DOHC 24-valve inline-six engine, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra produces a cool 340hp at 5,000rpm and 500Nm of maximum torque as low as 1,600rpm. In translation, this front-engine rear-wheel-drive beast can hit 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds and rocket to a limited top speed of 250km/h.
All that power is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and the fun is further amplified with the addition of launch control, active rear sport differential, active exhaust, and many more.
To keep everything smooth as butter for its occupants, the A90 Supra comes with a very unique suspension package which consists of:
- Double-joint-type MacPherson strut front suspension
- Multi-link independent rear suspension
- Adaptive Variable Sport (AVS) suspension
- Hollow front and rear stabilizer bars
- Sport-calibrated Electric Power Steering (EPS); power-assisted rack-and-pinion
Stopping power comes in the form of Brembo four-piston 348mm ventilated disc brakes handling the front and 330mm aluminium ventilated disc brakes taking care of the rear. All of these can be found housed within its 19-inch forged-aluminium twin-spoke wheels with dual-tone finish wrapped with some delicious Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires: (255/35ZR19 front, 275/35ZR19 rear).
Step inside its cabin and you’re welcomed with a cockpit that has a blend of comfort and sportiness all rolled into one. Its GR Supra seats with 14-way power adjustment will keep you glued no matter how fast you go around the corner thanks to its deep side bolsters and high-grip material.
An 8.8-inch high-resolution instrument cluster provides all the car’s necessary information to the driver and its main feature is the three-dimensional tachometer which is placed right in the middle for the ultimate driving pleasure. This can be easily seen through its leather wrapped GR Supra steering wheel fitted with steering-column-mounted paddle shifters.
