BMW’s first-ever production electric car, the BMW i3s, first made its Malaysian debut last year at Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2018 where it caught a lot of buzz. To live up to its hype, BMW Malaysia announced that it is now available for purchase at RM278,800 (OTR price without insurance).
All you need to know about BMW’s first ever all-electric car in Malaysia – the i3S!
With a lot more focus placed on saving our planet, more and more car manufacturers are coming up with their own production EVs and BMW designed their i3s to incorporate natural, renewable resources, and upcycled materials. In other words, 80% of the i3s is actually built using recycled parts from renewable resources. How cool is that??
Being an all-electric EV is another huge bonus to consumers where it generates zero local emissions. Under the hood lies an electric motor synched with a single-speed auto transmission that is able to produce 184hp and 270Nm of torque. 0-100km/h? 6.9 seconds. Top speed? 160km/h. Longest range on a full battery charge? 260km. Pretty impressive, indeed.
Using the 11kW BMW i Wallbox charger, customers can recharge it to a range of 180km in just three hours. With so many facilities readily available in public (shopping malls, etc.) thanks to their collaboration with parking app ParkEasy, finding an available parking space with charging facility is easier than ever.
The interior of the BMW i3s has been given the maximum dose of ‘eco-friendly’-ness. The beautiful instrument panel for example is made using eucalyptus wood that was grown and obtained from a responsible source.
Other panels of the car (which most car companies tend to use petroleum-based plastics) are made using strong fibres of the Kenaf plant, where it not only helps the environment suck up a lot of CO2 growing up but also helps the BMW i3s maintain its relatively low weight.
As for the car seats, they are produced using naturally-tanned leather using olive leaf extract (taken from responsibly-sourced from the by-product of olive harvests in the south of Europe). This gives the seats a fresh scent and helps regulate both moisture and temperature to enhance driving comfort.
