In celebration of MINI’s 60th anniversary here in Malaysia, MINI Malaysia is proud to announce their latest addition to their ever-growing line up of premium vehicles, the 2019 MINI Cooper S Convertible.
The new MINI Convertible is the climax of the 60th anniversary celebrations where MINI Malaysia has been offering super sweet deals in conjunction of this such as the 60 Months MINI Service + Repair Inclusive Program, MINIacs and Friends of MINI gatherings, and many more. And surprisingly, there will be more exciting news to come.
According to Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, “The first MINI Convertible with an all-electric soft top debuted at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show with the brand’s hallmark proportions, characteristic agility and clever functionality. To this day, the MINI Convertible is coveted for its stylish open-top driving excitement, non-stop thrill behind the wheel and complete with its unique go-kart drive feeling. In 2019, the New MINI Convertible returns to Malaysia in special numbers to celebrate the 60th Birthday of MINI.”
The new MINI Convertible comes with fresh design accents and updated driving features and technology in the form of the expanded MINI Connected digital services. Apart from looking extremely good, this beauty also comes with built-in 4G SIM technology for better connectivity and convenience for future owners.
The new offering is packaged with some sleek exterior features like all-round LED lights, 17-inch Rail Spoke design wheels in Jet Black, runflat tyres, Easy Load luggage compartment system, and of course, the retractable soft top for that extra boost of class and style.
The soft top is all controlled electronically and can be opened in just 18 seconds, even while the car is moving at a maximum 30km/h. That bit helps add space and freedom but when it’s closed, the multi-layered fabric offers great sound insulation and comfort for all occupants. Its intelligent Z-folding mechanism operates in three stages of open, closed or sunroof to let the cool breeze in when travelling in places like Genting or Cameron.
Step inside and you’re welcomed with premium goodies like its new lush seats finished in Malt Brown and other parts embellished in Leather Chester. The MINI Yours unit finished in Piano Black allows drivers to illuminate the interior surface with a choice of 12 different colours to suit your ambient mood.
The highest level of craftsmanship can also be seen on its steering wheel where it is finished with Nappa Leather and hand-finished aluminium-coloured contrast stitching. To complete things, the Union Jack Design is also included as part of the brand’s heritage.
The New MINI Convertible now features a newly designed electronic selector lever that returns to its original position after changing between driving mode ‘D’, neutral position ‘N’ and reverse mode ‘R’. The parking lock is activated by pressing the ‘P’ button. To support a particularly sporty driving style as well as allow manual intervention, owners can activate the ‘S’ mode from position ‘D’ by shifting the selector lever to the left.
Want power? The new MINI Convertible comes with a 2.0-litre MINI TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder banger that puts out a very cool 192hp and 280Nm of maximum torque. In other words, you can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 7.1 seconds while consuming only 5.7 litres of fuel for every 100km. Top speed? 230km/h.
All this power is controlled via a seven-speed Steptronic Sports automatic transmission that offers seamless and dynamic gear shifts. The selector lever allows drivers to opt for manual-shift or automatic mode according to their driving preference. You can also choose three driving modes; GREEN, SPORT, or MID.

The 2019 MINI Cooper S Convertible is priced at RM279,888 (OTR without insurance) and those who are interest should visit their official showrooms as fast as possible because only 20 units are available here in Malaysia. Four colours are made available which are Caribbean Aqua (exclusively for the Convertible), Chili Red, Solaris Orange, Melting Silver and Starlight Blue.
