Last weekend during the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2019, the Bentley Continental GT broke the all-time record set by a production car going up the iconic circuit located in Colorado, USA. Driven by three-time champion, Rhys Millen, the Continental GT went faster than the previous record by 8.4 seconds.
Maintaining an average speed of 112km/h, it was indeed a magnificent run for the Bentley which conquered all 156 bends going up to 5,000 feet in elevation. The combination of Millen’s epic driving skills and a car equipped with one of the world’s most advanced 12-cylinder engine, they managed to complete the 20-km course in 10:18.488.
According to Bentley’s Director of Motorsport, Brian Gush, “This new record once again proves that the spirit of endeavour and desire to push the boundaries of automotive performance remain at the beating heart of Bentley. It clearly demonstrates the Continental GT’s astonishing breadth of ability.”
As for the man of the hour, Rhys Millen, “This is an amazing finish to a wet, snowy 2019 run at Pikes Peak! We came here with one goal in mind, and that was to be the fastest production car up the mountain and set a new record. It was an incredible week. Today was a challenge with what Mother Nature threw at us, but the Continental GT held strong all the way to the top, and we are now Number One”.
Not a bad way to kick off Bentley’s 100th year anniversary in which they will be celebrating this 10 July 2019. To mark their 100th year, Bentley will be showcasing motoring evolution over the last 100 years, highlighting its global success today and the exciting future of innovation ahead.
