It was less than two weeks ago when the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was announced with the world’s most powerful supercharged 5.2-litre V8 production engine with 760hp and 850Nm of torque. Today, Ford announced its price tag and power does come with price.
For the basic model, the starting price has been set at $73,995 (around RM305,429) for the US market. The numbers will only go up from there if customers choose for different variants and options available like the Carbon Fibre Track package which can hit up to $90,000 (RM371,565).
This RM76,400 package consists of carbon-fibre wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track tires, an adjustable carbon-fibber wing, removable rear-seats, and front dive planes. The new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 with this package makes it the current record holder for the most expensive factory Mustang in the street-legal category.
The standard machine is able to hit a limited top speed of 290km/h and an impressive quarter mile drag time of 11 seconds. With all that added carbon fibre goodness and some weight reduction (superlight Recaro seats included in the packages), that price will instantly give customers a 10-second monstrous dragstrip eating machine.
It is very unlikely that this machine will grace our Malaysian shores anytime soon but we have high hopes that the new-generation Mustang will arrive as it was exclusively previewed at the end of last year during the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2019 (KLIMS).
