The Porsche 718 family is proud to announce their latest additions into their ever-growing line-up which are the Porsche 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4. These two new variants sit on the very top of the model series that offer superior agility and ultimate driving experience for those who seek driving bliss.
Both of these models share the same technical base which is a perfectly balanced mid-engine concept that comes equipped with a powerful four-litre six-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine paired with a (get this) six-speed manual transmission.
Want power? There’s 415hp and 420Nm of torque under the hood for both models which is between 35hp-45hp more compared to the previous generation Spyder and Cayman GT4. There’s not a single curve of racetrack that drivers won’t appreciate the latest Porsche 718 additions, especially with efficient aerodynamics, a full GT chassis and powerful brakes.
0-100km/h? 4.4 seconds. Top speed? 301km/h for the Spyder and 304km/h for the Cayman GT4. All of which can be obtained with a fuel consumption efficiency of only 10.9L/100km. This is all thanks to the new addition adaptive cylinder control and Piezo injectors that temporarily interrupts the injection process in one of the two cylinder banks, thus reducing fuel consumption.
The entire aerodynamics package has gone through the drawing boards where the new Porsche 718 models feature 50% more downforce without affecting drag. This is all achieved with their new single-chamber arch rear silencer, fixed rear wing, GT-style front end with large front spoiler lip and air curtains.
If you prefer something powerful with the top down, the 718 Spyder is perfect for those looking for a bit more freedom in their driving experience. Compared to the GT4, the Spyder has a rear spoiler that pops up when it reaches 120km/h for greater downforce and control.
In short, the new Porsche 718 Spyder is the first model in the Boxster family to generate aerodynamic downforce at the rear axle. Sweet.
When it comes to their chassis, Porsche pulled out all the stops by including a high-performance GT chassis. This latest addition offers superior cornering dynamics and lightweight spring-strut front and rear axles taken inspired from racing. This is further enhanced with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management damping system for sharper handling.
Other notable specifications include:
- Porsche Stability Management (PSM)
- Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV)
- Large aluminium monobloc fixed-calliper brakes
- Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (Optional)
- Clubsport package (Optional)
- includes a rear steel roll bar, a hand-held fire extinguisher and a six-point seatbelt
The latest 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4 is priced at EUR 93,350 and EUR 96,206 respectively (RM438,137 and RM451,541) in Germany. No immediate news on its availability elsewhere in the world but we’re pretty sure they’ll make their way to Malaysian shores soon enough.
