The New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) of the United States of America has awarded the Best-in-Class Subcompact SUV to none other than the Hyundai Kona. The subcompact SUV was recognised for the its second year in a row by NEMPA in the Winter Vehicle Awards.
According to Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning, Hyundai Motor America, “Kona continues to rack up awards as a testament to its product excellence. Kona sets the benchmark for its segment, with a 1.6L Turbo combining outstanding efficiency and robust power along with cutting-edge connectivity and class-leading available safety features.”
The Hyundai Kona was awarded with the honours through a series of evaluations done by fellow NEMPA members during the winter months. Aspects on driving ability and overall agility in rough conditions were taken into consideration as well as safety, driving please, and all-weather driving competence.
This is not the first time Hyundai’s lovely subcompact SUV have received such award. In 2019, Kona has been named North American Utility of the Year®, a Car and Driver 10Best Truck and SUV, Crossover of the Year by Texas Motor Press Association and Best Subcompact SUV for the Money by U.S. News & World Report.

We would love to see this baby arrive at our lovely Malaysian shores and based on several reliable sources, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) does have plans to bring in into the market after previewing it last year at KLIMS 2018. The question now is when and how much it will cost. One thing is for sure, it’ll make the segment that much more interesting.
