Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy R sets new record at Nürburgring

The latest Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy R has simultaneously set a new record at Nürburgring for the fastest lap time set by a front-wheel-drive production car and dethrone the previous king, the Honda Civic Type R.

On 5th April 2019 the Mégane R.S. Trophy-R set a new all-time record for front-wheel-drive production cars on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, now a world-renowned proving ground. It covered the 20.600 km in 07’40’’100, and the official whole lap length of the Nordschleife 20.832 km in just 07’45’’389.

That’s one hell of feat which Renault was able to accomplish thanks a number of deciding factors of the Mégane R.S. Trophy-R. These include increased speed to weight reduction (up to 130 kg), improved aerodynamics and the more radical development of its chassis for improved handling.

The same 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with a new exhaust system as the Mégane R.S. Trophy, the Trophy R version punches out a cool 296hp. With less weight to lug around and better aerodynamics plus improved chassis, this baby took over the crown as the new king of front-wheel-drive at the legendary circuit.

The official debut of the new Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R will be held this weekend in conjunction with the Formula One Grand Prix 1™ in Monaco. Want one? Better be quick about it because the Mégane R.S. Trophy-R will be on sale before the end of 2019, as an exclusive limited edition of a few hundred units only.
