The fake engine oil epidemic has been an ongoing war within the country and according to a recent report published by Kosmo! Online stated that authorities raided a supplier in Senai, Johor and seized a total of 4,524 bottles of the counterfeit stuff, which is said to be valued at RM45,692.20 in the market.
The supplier’s warehouse located at the Southern industrial area was raided by personnel from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs during an operation held earlier this week. The head of Johor’s division, Mr. Zubir Hamsa, stated that the operation was carried out after a week’s worth of investigation following a report made by the owners of the trademarked items.
“Based on the intelligence and information gathered, the raid was carried out where six staff were apprehended including the manager of the company. We successfully confiscated 377 boxes containing 4,524 bottles of 1-liter engine oil worth RM45,692.20 suspected to be counterfeited.”
It is also believed that these fake products are sold at around RM10 cheaper than the original product. To normal folks, the bottles look almost identical to the original, but the authorities were able to identify the difference to ensure that the fake products don’t end up on sale anywhere in the country.
To all consumers out there, if there’s a deal that seems too good to be true, do your research and make the right decision. Our best advice is to buy the products from the official stores, workshops, and dealers because at the end of the day, you might save a few Ringgit, but the internal damage caused by using these fake engine oils will definitely come back and haunt you (and your car, and your wallet).
